THOSE WHO DIG THEIR PYRAMIDS. Art Intervention, 1999-2000. Work in Progress, 2008.

The intervention Those Who Dig Their Own Pyramids was conducted in the Christopher Columbus Cemetery, in Havana. This site was built between 1871 and 1886 and has since been declared a World Heritage Monument. Those Who Dig Their Own Pyramids consisted of the construction six marble urns and carrying out six exhumations. I made a research in the cemetery’s archive and selected a number of people who had died unnoticed by all except their immediate families. After that, I contacted the families concerned and asked for their permission to make funerary urns for the remains of their relatives.
